Ivybridge Golf Club’s Paul Hendriksen delivered a back nine birdie blitz to deny Michael Watson outright victory in the Cotswold Edge Golf Club Pro-Am.
Watson, the 2019 Great Britain and Ireland PGA Cup team vice-captain who represents Wessex Golf Centre, had a three-shot advantage over Hendriksen following the front nine.
He was three-under-par at that stage and had more reason to fear challenges from a substantial posse of players who were a shot behind.
That group included East Devon Golf Club’s Kevin Harper and Louis Boston of Chippenham Golf Club who both ended up sharing fourth place after posting three-under-par rounds of 68.
Watson responded to their threat and that of Upavon Golf Club’s Dan Carter with three more birdies on the back nine for a six-under-par round of 65.
Hendriksen, however, was equal to the challenge. Having negotiated the 10th and 11th in regulation to remain on level-par he recorded six birdies in the final seven holes to also finish on six-under.
As a result Hendriksen and Watson each picked up £675 in prize money and Carter, who finished third two shots behind on four-under, collected £450.
