Three-time European Tour winner John Bickerton was in record-breaking form in the Tiverton Golf Club Pro-Am.
The PGA pro from Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club posted an eight-under-par round of 62 that, as well as winning the Tolchards Drinks-sponsored event, broke the course record.
Bickerton served notice of the golfing fireworks to come with a birdie at the par-four first and followed up with five more to reach the turn in six-under.
His solitary blip in the round came with a dropped shot at the par-four 11th but he atoned in fine style.
He posted three more birdies to claim the £775 winner’s cheque and finish three shots clear of another former European Tour player, David Dixon.
The Enmore Park pro also got away to a flying start. He recorded four birdies in succession from holes two to five but lost momentum with bogeys at the sixth and seventh.
Four more birdies and another dropped shot followed as Dixon signed for a five-under-par round of 65 to finish three shots clear of the trio sharing third place: Ivybridge Golf Club’s Paul Hendriksen, Dan Carter of Upavon Golf Club, and Tom Hanson.
Michael Watson of the Wessex Golf Centre was the only other player in the field to break par, posting a one-under-par round of 69.
Meanwhile, Bickerton in tandem with three-amateurs – Simon Young, Neil Megarry and Colin Taylor – won the team competition with a two-ball better-ball score of 20-under.
