Liam Bond ended a victory drought that had lasted three years by winning at the scene of his previous success – Radyr Golf Club.
Bond had finished tied first with former Ryder Cup star Phillip Price in the PGA Regional Captain’s Charity Pro-Am at the Cardiff venue three years ago after posting a two-under-par round of 68.
He had the winner’s enclosure all to himself, however, following his six-under-par round of 64 in the Glamorgan Telecom-sponsored Radyr Golf Club Pro-Am.
But he was made to work for his victory by East Devon Golf Club’s Kevin Harper.
Both recorded eagles at the par-five eighth hole en route to reaching the turn in four-under.
Harper moved to five-under at the par-three 10th but his haul of birdies dried up thereafter and he completed the rest of his round in regulation.
Bond, by contrast, recorded three birdies on the bounce from the 13th to 15th hole and a dropped shot on the 17th did not prevent him from claiming the £525 winner’s cheque.
Harper, who earned £400, finished two shots clear of Cardiff Golf Club’s Christopher O’Neill and gained a measure of consolation by winning the team competition with amateur trio – Neil Griffiths, Richard Lloyd and Mark Whiles.
