Paul Hendriksen returned to the winner’s enclosure for the second time in six days after the St Mellion Pro-Am but once again he was not alone.
Having finished tied first with St Kew Golf Club’s Richard O’Hanlon in the Oake Manor Golf Club six days beforehand, Hendriksen had to share the spoils with Ashley Moon at St Mellion.
Both posted one-under-par rounds of 71 in the event supported by Steve Bristow Stone Masonry to earn £750 apiece but Okehampton Golf Club’s Moon was left to reflect on a bogey at the 18th that cost him outright victory.
Similarly his co-winner from Ivybridge Golf Club had cause to rue dropping two shots on the back nine after reaching the turn in three-under.
He was three shots clear of Moon and the rest of the 32-strong field at that stage but bogeys at the 10th, 12th and 14th holes checked his momentum before a birdie at the par-four 17th arrested the decline.
There was even more of a scramble for third place with Enmore Park Golf Club’s David Dixon, Kevin Harper of East Devon Golf Club, Scott Godfrey of Ferndown Golf Club and Oake Manor’s Matthew Turner each posting one-over-par rounds of 73 to finish two shots behind the winners.
Moon, in tandem with a trio of amateurs - Andy, Matt and Lewis Parry – also finished tied first in the team competition.
They, along with two other teams – Dixon, Jon Ball, James Symons and Matt Durbin; and Harper, Simon Carter, Mark Dunsford and Guy Peters – amassed 81 Stableford points.
