Routes to qualification

With a PGA backed qualification and access to over 80 roles globally, graduation from the Training Programme can lead to a variety of career opportunities around the world. You decide whether full or part time study will work best for you.

The Foundation Degree and Diploma of Higher Education - Part-time study

Study part-time working in a golf environment for a minimum of 30-hours per week.

The PGA training programme is a dynamic and exciting course designed exclusively to meet the needs of the golf industry and PGA Professionals.

Incorporating a Foundation Degree in Professional Golf in conjunction with the University of Birmingham and the Diploma in Higher Education in Professional Golf with the University of the Highlands and Islands, the programme is based around various modules relevant to a career in golf.

The latest scholars to complete the course had their graduation ceremony recently at the University of Birmingham. Hear what the Robert Maxfield, Bernard Gallacher and the latest graduates had to say about the courses.

On completion of either course you will have the opportunity to continue your studies and ‘top-up’ to a full honours degree (dependant on performance during the course).

About the courses

They are delivered as distance learning courses with E-learning as the preferred mode of delivery. In terms of teaching, the following delivery methods are used:

• Residential courses delivered at the PGA National Training Academy at The Belfry, covering core subject areas. These sessions are delivered in small groups by one/two tutors. And consist of face-to-face workshops, lectures and practical sessions.
• Lectures are delivered via the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (iVLE). Numerous e-lessons, lectures and activities/assessments have been designed and developed in each subject area. These are interactive, visually stimulating and engage the learner. All students have access to the iVLE.

The combination of face-to-face, video conference, online, workshop and practical approaches takes account of the demands and expectations of your job and is designed to support your work-based learning.
