Brampton just the job for Rob

Brampton just the job for Rob

Rob Coles (Maylands Golf & Country Club) received a boost ahead of the imminent PGA Cup appearance with a shared victory at the Brampton Park pro-am.

Coles, who is set to make his second appearance for Great Britain & Ireland, shot two-under-par to tie at the top with Matt Cousens (Bushey Driving Range) and Mark Talbott (Thopre Hall).

The highlight of Coles’ round was an eagle at the par-5 14th – the only three at that hole during the day.

Cousens got it to three-under on a blustery day, but a bogey at the par-3 15th left him in joint-first.

Talbott made his move relatively late on, birdieing 14 and 17 to seize a share of top spot.

Glen Portelli (Old Fold Manor) was one of a clutch of players tied for fourth place, but could have ended up at the summit.

A pair of late bogies saw him slip back after he’d been three-under with three to play.

The champagne moment of the day was supplied by Brampton’s own director of golf, Richard Beadles.

He conjured up an ace at the 172-yard par-3 seventh hole, unleashing the perfect 7-iron!
