McGuire off the mark

Matt McGuire (pictured) picked up his first win of the season thanks to his two-shot victory at the Walmley Pro-Am.

McGuire (Stoneleigh Deer Park GC) shot a five-under par 67 that included an impressive seven birdies to claim the top prize. Five of these came on the back nine with his only dropped shots coming on fifth and 17th.

Daniel Greenwood (Forest Pines GC) was his nearest challenger at three-under – his task not being helped by a double bogey at the seventh.

Paul Broadhurst finished a further shot adrift with Paul Wesselingh (Kedleston Park GC) and Neil Evans (Market Harborough GC) carding one-under par 71s.

No other golfer broke par although six finished level while Walmley professional Steve Carter bagged a birdie at the last to finish at one-over par.
