UPDATE - Tristan Crew (Executive Director - Member Services) updates Members on PGA tournaments

04/06/2020

Over recent months the COVID-19 crisis has demanded that professional tournament activity cease. As the restrictions start to be relaxed we are now working with the respective governments, government sports agencies and other sports bodies to decipher the most appropriate and safe time to re-introduce PGA National, Regional and County level golf.

It is really important that we gain relevant Government approval before we commence with PGA tournaments. The implication of opening tournament play up before we have gained approval could result in Government placing longer restrictions on us.

In the meantime can we request that Members avoid competing in any professional tournament activity.

Currently there are no definitive dates for tournaments to return across the UK and Ireland but we are hoping that the restrictions are lifted in time for our first scheduled event on 25 June. Throughout the crisis The PGA has been cautious and considered when postponing or cancelling tournaments to ensure that as soon as the return to professional golf is sanctioned then we have a schedule for our Members to compete in.

Unfortunately, we will be unable to deliver a tournament schedule of the scale that you have become accustomed to this year, however PGA staff will be working hard with sponsors and facilities with the aim of providing the best schedule possible for the remainder of the season.

Regional schedules will be published separately. The revised National Tournaments schedule as it stands at present is below:-

To be re-arranged

PGA Professional Championship

Women’s PGA Professional Championship

PGA Assistants’ Championship

WPGA One Day Series

As scheduled

Welsh National PGA Championship   16 – 17 September

PGA Inter-County Championship   7 – 8 October

To be confirmed

Senior PGA Professional Championship

SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge

PGA Super 60’s Championship

Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship

Staysure PGA Trophy

Please be aware that the schedule is subject to change but we will be sure to keep you informed regarding the lifting of professional tournament restrictions and of the playing opportunities available as the information transpires.

In the meantime we thank you for your patience and wish you and your families well.
