PGA 2020 Vision

Welcome to 2020 Vision

Recognising the enormous changes in golf and the need to evolve, The PGA’s new 2020 Vision initiative is the most significant structural change in the Association’s history. Read on to find out more about what it means for Members and the wider golf industry...

What is the 2020 Vision Project?

Recognising that golf is changing, the 2020 Vision initiative offers increased specialisation for PGA Professionals plus membership opportunities for all who work in the golf industry – including business professionals and club volunteers.

From a Membership perspective we are turning one category, that of PGA Professional, into three: PGA Professional, PGA Coach and PGA Manager. This will enable Members to choose and highlight their specialism, recognising that many PGA Professionals hold management roles.

In addition to the new individual Membership categories, we are also adding two new group Membership categories, called the Business Management Group and Club Volunteer by PGA. These groups aim to bring those working and volunteering in golf under the umbrella of The PGA.

By enabling present and future Members to specialise and develop further in their chosen areas, we are recognising and championing their expertise. By bringing all those who work and volunteer in golf, we’re positioning ourselves at the heart of the game for years to come.

With the 2020 Vision we will be a membership of professionals in the business of golf rather than a membership of professional golfers.

Why The Need for Change?

Why The Need for Change?

Acting on feedback from Members, which highlighted a desire to communicate their areas of specialism and differentiate themselves from their peers, the new individual categories reflect the diverse roles fulfilled by PGA Professionals and enable them to demonstrate their skills and influence.

The Business Management Group is about helping to support and develop the workforce of golf, whether they’re involved in golf clubs, hotels, travel, operations, retail, equipment or any other golf business sector. It’s designed to give all of the people who make golf business happen the opportunity to join a professional body and be a part of what is hoped will become the leading industry network for knowledge sharing, networking and career development.

With the creation of a Club Volunteer category – aimed at those who support the running of golf clubs in the way that Governors contribute to schools - The PGA will provide invaluable training and guidance, enabling them to update their skills, offer more to their club and align their goals and aspirations with the professional workforce.

Our goal is to ensure that everyone involved in the business of golf is speaking the same language.
