Norfolk golf pros Nicholas Cains and Chase Davis have made up for last year’s disappointment in failing to qualify for the final of the PGA Fourball Championship by making no mistake this time.

Cains (right), who is attached to Swaffham Golf Club, and Eaton Golf Club’s Davis (above) missed out on qualifying for last year’s final in a play-off after finishing level with nine other pairs on three-under-par.

That nerve-jangling scenario was avoided this time, however, as the pair stormed to victory in the PGA East region qualifier at Crews Hill Golf Club, Enfield, the scene of last year’s near miss.

A bogey at the par-three third did not bode well for their prospects but that proved to be the only blemish on their scorecard.

Cains contributed six birdies and an eagle and Davis weighed in with five birdies as the pair posted a betterball 10-under-par round of 60 to finish three shots ahead of the trio sharing second place.

The pair will now play in the final which, staged in England at Farleigh Golf Club, Surrey, in late August, carries a £33,250 prize purse with £5,500 going to the winning duo.

They will be joined there by: David Botley (Chesfield Downs Golf Club) and Nicholas Pinnock (Panshanger Golf Complex); David Bunker and Max Jones (Moor Park); James Webber (The Rayleigh Club) and Max Brackley (Manston Golf Centre); Stephen Harris (The Shire London) and Peter Cherry (Ashridge Golf Club); Ryan Pudney (Mundesley Golf Club) and Charlie Bright (Sheringham Golf Club); Mark Talbott and Joe Ellis (Thorpe Hall Golf Club); Darren Charlton (Dunstable Downs Golf Club) and Alex White (Romiley Golf Club), George Hewitt and Andrew Clapp (Bickendon Grange Golf Club), Adam Pike (Brampton Park Golf Club) and Neil Mitchell (Ipswich Golf Centre).
