Chris Baron of West Essex Golf Club secured success in the PGA (East) Head Pros’ Championship at Brocket Hall.

Baron produced an inspired back-nine, including a birdie at the final hole, to clinch victory by a shot from David Smith (Chadwell Springs).

Mark Booth (Colmworth & North Beds) eagled the par-five 18th to land a share of third spot alongside playing partner Ben Kerr (West Suffolk Golf Centre).

But it was Baron who stole the show with a wonderful inward nine of 32 for a two-under-par overall total of 70 to edge Smith, who was in the first group out on the Melbourne Course.

Baron’s round didn’t get off to the smoothest start as he made bogey on his first hole of the day. Indeed, he slipped to three-over after nine.

But he picked up a shot at the 10th to trigger a sparkling spree of five birdies with no blemishes down the stretch.

It was a superb burst of scoring and proved just enough to take the title.
