Birthday bonus for Dixon

02/04/2013

David Dixon celebrated his 36th birthday with his seventh Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal win at Tall Pines – and fourth in succession - to make it a clean sweep during of March.

Once more Ed Goodwin (Cirencester) was runner up – again for the fourth time in a row. He totalled 69 (37 Stableford points) to Dixon’s four-under-par 66, worth 40 points, and further extended his already massive lead in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.

The North Somerset venue next to Bristol Airport was frozen solid but the weather was dry if not  bitterly cold.

Although Dixon opened with a bogey, two birdies in three holes from the fifth took him into red figures. He missed a short putt at the 10th for his final bogey. Then a strong finish swept him to victory as he birdied the last four holes.

Goodwin also dropped a shot at the first but regained it at the fifth. Three bogeys and two birdies followed until he made an eagle on the short par four 16th when he drove the green.

Daryl Kelley (Filton) also made an eagle two at the same hole and his five other birdies helped him take the birdie sweep.

But with only four pars on his card of 36 points he had to settle for a share of third with Giuseppe Licata (Bristol Golf Centre) who consolidated his second spot in the OOM.

Mark Luckett (Wheathill), Paul Barrington (Players) and Nigel Warburton (Knowle) shared fifth on 35 points with Barrington and Warburton also dividing the Over 40’s sweep money.
