Jason Boast returned to his old club to win the St Neots Pro-Am by a three-shot margin.

Boast, now at Cambridge Golf Driving Range, was the only player to break par on a gusty and warm day.

He shot a two-under-par 68 to beat James Gurry (Basildon) and James Scade (Ingrebourne Links Golf Complex). Stuart Brown (Orton Meadows) was a further stroke back in sole possession of fourth place.

The winner said: “In the past, I used to be pro and a member at St Neots – I always enjoy going back.

“It’s a tricky course so that extra knowledge helps. I just played really solid from tee to green which made it easier on the greens.”

Boast was the last player to tee off, stacking up solid pars before making his first birdie at the sixth. A bogey arrived at the eighth but he bounced back in fine style, picking up shots at the subsequent two holes.

He maintained his push for success at the 17th, getting to three-under. And having built up such a commanding lead, he could even afford the luxury of dropping a stroke at the closing hole.

Neil Mitchell (Bury Golf Range) was in charge of the winning team. They finished on 130, one ahead of the group led by Gurry.
