Craig Corrigan set a course record seven-under-par 64 at Aberdovey in the first round of a PGA North Pro-Am.

The long-serving Haigh Hall teaching professional matched the score posted by Ian Woosnam last year, although the former Ryder Cup star and Masters winner was unable to claim the record as it was achieved in a social round.

Corrigan rolled in nine birdies, including four in a row from the sixth and erred twice with a bogey on each half.

But he failed to maintain the momentum in the second round at Royal St David's where a four-over-par 73 left him tied first with Pennant Park's Andrew Barnett.
