Defending champion Goodwin maintains perfect start

13/10/2020

Defending champion Ed Goodwin has made an impressive start to the Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucester and Somerset PGA Winter Series by winning the first two events.

Having finished four shots clear of Brean Golf Club’s Andrew March to win the Mendip Spring Medal, Goodwin followed suit in the Chipping Sodbury Medal.

This time the pro from Cirencester Golf Club posted a three-under-par round of 69 to finish two shots ahead of Bristol & Clifton Assistant Ali Balcombe.

He served notice of what was to follow with birdies at the first and third holes before adding another at the par-four seventh.

That preceded his solitary bogey and his subsequent run of pars was only interrupted by an impressive birdie at the tough 424-yard 10th.

Balcombe, meanwhile, played alongside Goodwin and his one-under-par round of 71 earned him his first top three finish in G&S events and left him two shots clear of Stockwood Vale’s James Jakes.
