Matt Moseley and Richard James will hope a golfing connection forged when they were youngsters will help them defend their Golfbreaks PGA Fourball title at Carden Park.

The Welsh pair won the prestige event at the Cheshire venue last year by two shots ahead of a four-way battle for second place.

Now they will return for this year’s event which takes place between August 23-25.

Moseley, from Tenby Golf Club, looked back at last year’s event and said the course suited both of them, with opening and third round scores of 62 making the difference.

“I’ve known Rich since we were kids, we started playing together when we were maybe 12 years old,” he said.

“So we know each other’s game really well, we played county golf and for Wales. We’ve both done our PGA qualifications and it’s nice to get together with friends to play events like this.

“We both trust each other’s game and we know we’re both decent players, so that works out nicely for us.”

Last year’s victory saw Moseley continue his form with a fourth place in the Welsh PGA Championship a few weeks later.

“I was fourth and top assistant also at that event, it was a good run of form for me and a nice block of events came at this time last year,” he added.

Moseley says the Carden Park course suited himself and James, of Tour Fit Golf, last year.

“It was set up really nicely, it was a good fourball course,” he said. To a certain extent, it suited mine and Richie’s game. Last year we gelled really well, and to win an event like that you need to have that kind of momentum and things have to go your way.

“We’ll hopefully try and get off on the right foot again and see where it takes us.”

Also due to play at Carden Park are the pairings who won their qualifying events including: Michael Campbell (Kettering Golf club) and Simon Lilly (Wellingborough Golf Club); Harrison Duckett and Jonathan Didlick (Hankley Common Golf Club);  Jason Shufflebottom (North Wales Golf Range) and Mark Pilkington  (Porthmadog Golf Club); Joe Yorke  (China Fleet Golf & Country Club) and Adam Frayne  (Yelverton Golf Club); Nicholas Cairns ( Swaffham Golf Club) and Chase Davis (Eaton Golf Club);  James Caldwell  (Kilmarnock (Barassie)Golf Club) and Ian Redford  (Gailes Golf & Leisure); and Paul Eivers  (Cahir Park Golf Club) and David Ryan  (East Cork Golf Club).
