Phil Edwards (Riverside) hit eight birdies to claim victory in the Walmley Golf Club pro-am.

Last year's PGA in England (Midlands) captain dropped just two shots to defeat a top quality field with a superb six-under-par round of 66.

His score was just enough to pip the on-form Lincoln Golf Centre star Paul Streeter who fired six birdies and dropped just the one shot in his 67 around the Sutton Coldfield course.

Another Notts star, Lee Clarke (Beeston Fields), finished his round strongly with three birdies on his way to a 69 and third place. Joe Smoothy (Marriott Forest of Arden) and the region’s current captain Ian Walley shared fourth spot with a pair of 70s.

In the team event Edwards did the double, his team edging out Clarke's by just the one shot.
