Craig Everett (Caldwell) fired a splendid round of seven-under-par 64 at Crieff Golf Club to be the leading qualifier of 18 for the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship, being played early this year (May 5 to 7) because of the Ryder Cup in September.

Everett's score was achieved on preferred lies but that does not diminish in any way a bogey-free round of seven birdies achieved at the second, sixth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th.

He picked up the £100 leading qualifier prize by five strokes from the joint runners-up on 69 - Mark Hillson (Tandridge), Jonathan Cliff (Murrayfield), David Laing (Craigielaw) and unattached senior Ross Drummond.

There was a seven-man play-off featuring those who finished on two-over 73 for the last qualifying place.

It was won by Ellon's Ross Cameron (Saltire) who birdied the second extra hole.
