Dunbar tour pro Neil Fenwick shot a five-under-par 66 at Crieff to qualify for the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship.

Fenwick headed the 17 qualifiers who will go forward to the main event at the Perthshire venue from May 5 to 7.

Fenwick started inauspiciously with a bogey five and was still one-over-par standing on the fifth tee.

But it was a different story over the next 11 holes with a six-under-par bogey-free run studded with birdies at the fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, 10th and 15th.

He finished three shots ahead of Paul Shields (Kirkhill), Michael Patterson (Kilmacolm) and Newmachar's Malcolm Isaacs who bounced back from a double bogey at the second to birdie five holes between the third and the 10th.

There was a six-way play-off, featuring the players who returned two-over-par 73s, for the last qualifying place. It lasted one hole, thanks to a birdie by Ian Taylor (Drumpellier).
