Five in the frame at Forest Hills

Giuseppe Licata extended his lead in the Total Triumph Order of Merit thanks to his third victory in succession but had to share the prize pot with four others at Forest Hills.

Licata, along with Brickhampton Court’s Ross Langdon, the host club’s Jamie Dick, Jamie Roach of Sherdons Golf Centre, and Gloucester Golf Centre’s Oliver Storrer all negotiated the Forest of Dean course in one under par rounds of 71.

Langdon, Dick and Licata are among the usual suspects in terms of winning the Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucester and Somerset PGA winter series events, but this was a new experience for Roach and Storrer.

Roach was first out with Licata and, having reached the turn in one-over, secured his place in the winner’s enclosure with birdies at 15 and 17.

By contrast, Licata, who is now more than 40 points clear of Brean Golf Club’s Andrew March in the Order of Merit, experienced a rollercoaster round.

Three successive bogeys on the front nine looked to have wrecked his chances of a hat-trick of wins but five birdies on the back nine rescued the situation.

Similarly, Langdon signed off with three successive birdies to register his third win of the campaign while Dick also came alive on the inward half with an eagle and two birdies.

Meanwhile, Storrer wasted no time in producing the shot of the day when his approach to the par-four first found the target.
