Forsyth is to the fore in Kerr Investments 36-holer

24/08/2021

Alastair Forsyth notched his second Order of Merit title of the season as he eased to a three shot victory in the Kerr Investments 36-holer at Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club.

The former European Tour champion reeled off rounds of 65 and 64 for an 11-under aggregate of 129 and finished ahead of a chasing trio which featured Chris Currie, Graham Fox and halfway leader Paul O’Hara.

Forsyth, the former Scottish PGA champion, began his campaign with a five-under score on Saturday but it was O’Hara, the dominant force on the Arnold Clark Tartan Tour this season, who set the early pace.

His sizzling 63 put the Motherwell man on course for another Order of Merit crown but, having burst out of the block on day one, O’Hara’s charge was tempered by a second round 69.

Forsyth made a significant statement of intent on the final day by romping to the turn in five-under. The 45-year-old leaked a shot on the 15th but a late salvo of birdies at 16 and 18 gilded the lily and earned him the first prize of £2240.

Chris Doak, the defending champion, finished in fifth on a 133. Forsyth and the rest of the domestic campaigners are now gearing up for the Tartan Tour’s flagship, the Loch Lomond Whiskies Scottish PGA Championship, which takes place next week at Deer Park.
