A generous Midlands golf club is giving a select band of aspiring PGA professionals a boost - by throwing open its fairways for free!

Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club in Shropshire has waived all fees as it looks to support students on the University of Birmingham and PGA accredited Applied Golf Management Studies degree (AGMS).

The club, which celebrates its 20th anniversary next year, has employed AGMS students the past two summers and having being impressed by their professionalism is giving all students on the three-year programme the freedom to use the facilities to improve their game.

Graham Pain, general manager of Cleobury Mortimer GC, said: "Given the AGMS degree is such a prestigious course with just 25 students a year, we know as a business that we are getting some of the most exciting young professionals coming into the profession.

"The students that come here are taking responsibility and are encouraged to bring and implement ideas into the work place. Students that have come to Cleobury have found it positive and rewarding and so have we.

"We have employed AGMS students here for the past two summers and have been very impressed by their standards and professionalism.

"We would like to support all of the students in their drive to be PGA professionals and further their careers after university, by giving them full use of our facilities and provide a base for the students to sharpen their on-course skills during their three academic years."

The link up is another boost for the AGMS degree, which has been running for 10 years and is unique in offering a degree in all aspects of the golf industry and coaching , which can lead to full membership of the PGA.

Past students have gone on to achieve high-profile roles as PGA professionals across the world and in the UK as well as successful careers in the golf industry.

Gary Jackson, business skills development manager at the PGA said: "We are keen to develop our links with Cleobury Mortimer as it is a good example of modern, forward-thinking club.

"These links provide opportunities for our students to gain experience in the industry and to make full use of the excellent playing facilities.

"This offer is a very generous one and I am sure many AGMS students will be grateful for the opportunity."
