Head PGA Professional David Green (above) and the Wildernesse Captain’s team celebrated a well deserved home victory yesterday, winning the team event in the Wildernesse Pro-Am.

In the individual event, Gary Marks (World of Golf) and Andrew Butterfield (Knole Park) tied after shooting five-under-par 67s to share victory and take home cheques for £646.50.

Butterfield shot six birdies while Marks made five and an eagle at the 18th as they charged round Wildernesse to nudge morning starter, David Osborn (West Hill), into third spot.

As the opener to the main event, the inaugural The Wildernesse Order of Merit supported by KRL, the Pro-Am showed all the contenders what a fine challenge the Wildernesse course is going to be. Regional Secretary Sam Smith summed up everyone’s feelings about the course and the day, saying, “The condition of the golf course was unbelievable - probably the best conditioned golf course I have seen at a PGA event.  To play in glorious sunshine in the Kent countryside was also just fantastic.”

He continued: “David Green and secretary, Andrew Lawrence, and the team at Wildernesse have worked long and hard to get things into shape for the Pro-Am and especially for the Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit tournament, and this was a taster of just how good a result they’ve achieved. Everyone was remarking on its condition, and the overall experience they’ve received in terms of the club’s hospitality.

“I’ve no doubt that the contenders for the Order of Merit will put on a terrific performance themselves, and I look forward to seeing events unfold over the next couple of days.”
