Honours even at Southerndown

13/01/2020

Joe Francis and Martin Stimson defied the elements to finish tied first in the PGA in South Wales Southerndown Golf Club medal.

Both men reached the turn in level par and, despite the onset of heavy rain, found scoring easier on the back nine.

Francis(pictured), who is attached to Llantrisant & Pontyclun Golf Club, birdied the 10th and 13th to complete a two-under-par round of 68.

Meanwhile, Glyn Abbey Golf Club’s Stimson went one better in terms of birdies. He birdied 11, 12 and 14 before a bogey at the last cost him outright victory.

Similarly Sion Bebb of Morlais Castle Golf Club was left to reflect on what might have been after he double bogeyed the 18th to finish a shot behind the joint winners.

By contrast, Francis did not have to share the winner’s enclosure following the pro-am. In what turned out to be a family affair, he and his father Russell racked up 45 points for victory.

The next event is scheduled to be held at Clyne Golf Club, Swansea, on January 23.
