How has it been so far?
I began the two-year course in October, it has five modules and it's more theory based rather than practical when I initially did the Diploma. So far, it's covered more areas than I thought. The first module was research methods in sport which was fascinating. Some of the papers were linked to golf but it was learning how to research and how to take a paper that's been published and understanding the validity to it and are they able to back up what their theories are. I wasn't necessarily expecting that, but I loved the module.
What is it teaching you?
I've learned an awful lot. My background is coaching, I regard myself as being a good coach with a good knowledge base and the ability to make differences to people. The things that I've learned in this latest module of golf coaching have completely opened my eyes to learning about what different ages want from the game. We don't all want to play golf to be competitive, you speak to many golfers and it's all about competition because that's all they've ever done. But a lot of members are really not interested in that side and it’s been great to make sure that you're gearing not just your lessons, but your membership offering, to entice them to want to be members. So that's helped me to look at golf coaching more holistically rather than necessarily just purely about the technique or the performance, and having a much wider spectrum to it.
