John Kelly's hot run of form continued at the Newcastle Garages Ltd sponsored Pro-Am event at Greystones.

Winner of the recent Etihad Airways PGA Sprint tournament at Concra Wood GC, Kelly finished level with Daniel Sugrue on three-under-par at the Co Wicklow venue.

Sugrue, representing Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, made a poor start to his round by dropping a shot at the par three first, but he hit back with birdies at the third and fifth.

Another dropped shot followed at the par four sixth but he collected a further birdie at the par-five ninth to be out in one-under 34. The 36-year-old, playing the course for the first time, was much steadier on the back nine, collecting birdies at the par-four 12th and the par-five 15th to sign for a 66.

Kelly made steady start with pars at the opening seven holes before picking up shots at the eighth, ninth and 10th. The St Margaret's GC professional dropped a shot at the 308yard par four 13th but responded with a two at the par three 16th to join Sugrue at the top of the leaderboard.

A quartet of players, John Dwyer, Cian McNamara, Brendan McGovern and Niall Kearney finished a shot off the pace. McGovern was also pipped to the team prize by Delgany GC, Mark Staunton.

The tournament also saw not one but two aces recorded at the par three 16th. Dermot Whiston representing Greystones and Paul O'Farrell, a member at Woodbrook covered the 136 yards with a single blow.
