Downfield professional Kenny Hutton, who hails originally from Muir of Ord, won the Midland Golfers' Alliance championship at Crieff after a play-off against amateurs Gary Tough (Edzell) and Willie Hutton (Pitlochry).

They had tied on four-over-par 145 after two rounds, Kenny Hutton with scores of 72-73, Tough 69-76 and Willie Hutton, no relation to Kenny, 74-71.

Scratch man Tough was eliminated with a bogey four at the first play-off hole. The second hole was halved and then Kenny Hutton won the third and the title for a fifth time in all with a birdie.

Edzell assistant professional Mike MacKenzie had the shot of the day, holing a pitching wedge tee shot at the 124-yard fourth hole.
