Lee supreme again at Radyr

25/02/2014

2502West James Lee

James Lee, the regional chairman from Caerphilly, won his second South Wales PGA medal with a round of one-over-par 69 at a shortened Radyr course.

Lee made two birdies on a difficult day for scoring in wet, miserable conditions, going out in 37 and returning in 32.

This followed his bright start to the season when he gained a two-stroke success in the first medal at Pyle and Kenfig.

This time he finished one clear of Richard Brookman (Creigiau), Matt Dearden (Llantrisant and Pontyclun), Rhys Davies (Cardiff) and Kevin Davies (Virginia Park) in a field of 16.

The assistants’ prize – awarded for the first time – was shared by Chris O’Neill (Valleys Golf Enterprise, Rhondda) and Sam Barton (Carmarthenshire) with rounds of 72.

Simon Swales (Radyr) was re-elected South Wales captain at the annual meeting that followed. Dearden joins Barry Thomas (St Mellons), Lee and secretary Adam Constable (Cardiff) on the committee.

The next medal will be held at Newport on March 5.
