Levermore is Essex champion for fourth time

Jason Levermore (above) of Channels Golf Club won the Essex PGA Championship for the fourth time in his career with rounds of 73 and 69 at The Burstead Golf Club.

He beat Chase Davis, an assistant at Stapleford Abbotts, who had rounds of 74 and 70. Davis won the Essex Trainees’ prize.

First round leader Jon Fryatt of Thorpe Hall had to settle for third place with his rounds of 69 and 76.

Mark Hooper of Rayleigh Golf Range, winner of this year’s Virgin Atlantic PGA East Region order of merit, was in fourth place with two rounds of 73.

The Essex Seniors’ title went to Mark Stokes of Rayleigh Golf Range with two rounds of 74 which earned him a share of fifth place with Craig Lockwood of Forrester Park signed for 75 and 73.

The event, sponsored by Detur, was staged at The Burstead to celebrate the club’s 20th anniversary.

First professional prize in the pro-am the previous day, also sponsored by Detur, was shared by Levermore and James Webber (Three Rivers) who has had experience on the PGA Europro Tour. Both were six-under 65. Stokes was third with 67. Hooper and Mark Talbott of Thorpe Hall were joint fourth with 68.

Levermore brought home the winning team of Mike Smith, Ian Gordon and Paul Goldsmith with 91 Stableford points. Stokes, Dominic Adams, Glen Llangenberg and Eamonn Matthews were runners-up with 88. Third team prize went to Webber, James Boucher, Jim Clark and Alastair McLeod with 87 points.
