A fantastic four-round seven-under-par total secured third place for the Lee-On-Solent Assistant Professional Lewis Scott in Australia.

Scott finished third in the PGA Associate National Championship at Cobram Barooga Golf Club. The 28-year-old was the only player in the field to record all four rounds under par. His scores of 69, 71, 70 and 71 - a total of seven-under-par - gave him third place outright, just two off the eventual winner, Australian Levi Sclater, in a truly international start sheet of professionals.

“I played very steady and I was particularly pleased with my long game, hitting a lot of fairways, which gave me scoring opportunities,” said Scott, who along with the time difference and high temperatures, had to adjust to the tricky grain on the greens.

“Cobram-Barooga was in fantastic condition, a really good test of golf, and I was made to feel very welcome by the Australian PGA. The greens were firm and fast and I had to contend with grain, which is something that you seldom play on in the UK, which was an added challenge, for sure. There were some very talented players out there so I was pleased to be in the mix contending for the win.”

Scott earned his place in the PGA Associate Championship courtesy of winning the Coca-Cola PGA Assistants’ Championship at Farleigh Golf Club earlier this year. In that event he fired a final round seven-under-par 65 to finish on 14-under in a tie at the top with Scot Graeme Robertson, but secured the title in dramatic style in a play-off, taking the winner’s £5,000 prize.

Scott is now taking a few weeks off over the winter to give his body a chance to rest before his next big event on the horizon, the PGA Playoffs in April 2024 where a number of DP World Tour spots are up for grabs.
