PGA confirms 2026 PGA Cup Qualification Criteria for GB&I team

24/06/2025

The PGA has officially confirmed the eligibility, selection, and qualification criteria for the 2026 Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) PGA Cup team, with both the PGA Professional Championship and the Chrome Tour PGA Open Series playing pivotal roles in the two-year lead-up to the event.

The 2026 team will be made up of 10 PGA Members, and the qualification process will closely mirror previous editions, placing significant emphasis on consistent performance across two competitive seasons: 2025 and 2026.

Key qualification routes:

PGA Professional Championship

This flagship tournament will be central to qualification, with performances in both the 2025 and 2026 editions contributing to the selection process. Points will be awarded to the top 20 finishers in each year, with 2026 offering slightly more weighting than 2025 to reflect proximity to the event.

The cumulative two-year points standings will determine five automatic qualifiers for the PGA Cup team. This approach ensures that consistent excellence over time, rather than a single strong performance, will be rewarded.

Chrome Tour PGA Open Series Order of Merit

Alongside the Championship, the Chrome Tour PGA Open Series provides a second route to qualification. Across the nine scheduled events in 2025 and the first seven of 2026, players can accumulate points based on their best five finishes each year. The top 20 players from 2025 and 2026 will be awarded points toward an aggregated Order of Merit, with greater value again placed on the 2026 season.

The leading player in the combined Order of Merit standings, who has not already qualified through the PGA Professional Championship standings, will earn an automatic place on the team. Should the top player have already qualified, the next eligible player in the Open Series standings will be selected.

For the 2025 season, all nine Chrome Tour events will contribute to the qualification process. In 2026, only the first seven events will count toward each player's total.

The qualifying Chrome Tour Open Series events are:

Year 1 (2025) Year 2 (2026)
Manchester Open Open Series - Floater
South West Open Manchester Open
Open Series - Floater South West Open
Northern Open (Scotland) Midland Open
East Region Championships Northern Open (Scotland)
Surrey Open East Region Championships
Midland Open Surrey Open
Leeds Cup
Open Series - Ireland

Captain’s picks

In addition to the six automatic qualifiers (five via the PGA Professional Championship standings and one via the Chrome Tour PGA Open Series Order of Merit), the team will be completed by four captain’s picks. These selections will be made at the captain’s discretion from the pool of eligible PGA Members.
