PGA in Ireland launch 2023 tournament schedule with increased prize funds and more events

02/02/2023

The PGA in Ireland has launched its new tournament schedule for 2023, boasting increased prize funds, more events and exciting new venues for the Region.

Last year saw Ireland’s leading PGA professionals travel the length and breadth of the country, playing some of the island’s finest courses before Richard Kilpatrick was crowned the Order of Merit Champion for 2022.

This season tees off with the PGA Championship Qualifier at Co. Louth in April before the schedule visits some of the most celebrated venues in the land, where players will enjoy increased exposure as our media partners shine a spotlight on the Region.

Among a number of highlights on the new calendar sees The K Club, home to the PGA in Ireland’s headquarters, host two significant Pro-Ams both sure to attract stellar fields, first at The K Club South on May 30 before The North Course takes centre stage on July 10.

From August 9-12, Carne Golf Links will once again play host to the Irish PGA Championship where Damien McGrane defends the title as he goes in search of his fourth victory at the Region’s blue-ribbon event. It will be a busy year for Carne as the club also welcomes the two-day Vermilion Pro-am to Belmullet on June 10 and 11.

While even more tournaments will soon be confirmed, the sight of Donegal’s Murvegh Golf Links on the calendar for the first time ever is sure to pique players’ interests ahead of a two-day tournament on July 7-8.

Glasson Lakehouse will be the focus when the new WPGA Series makes a splash for its May launch while September sees The PGA Open Series travel south to Douglas Golf Club for another two-day spectacle of high-quality golf.

This year will also see the PGA staying true to its DNA by introducing Junior Coaching programmes proceeding the schedule’s most prestigious events.

Off the back of the success of the PGA Junior Clinic held at Millicent Golf Club last year, it’s hoped the new initiative will build on that momentum and inspire the next generation of PGA pros.

With more exciting announcements still to come, 2023 promises to be a huge year for the PGA in Ireland and its members.
