PGA Member Nelson becomes CEO of Future Citizens Foundation First Tee

Nick Nelson, Executive Director of First Tee Monterey County, has been announced as the non-profit organisation’s new Chief Executive.

An optimistic and visionary leader, whose ability to inspire and organise others has been instrumental in building First Tee Monterey County, Nelson has been with First Tee since 2002 when he was approached by its founders John Zoller and Ollie Nutt to assist them with the organisation’s formation.

Nelson will now be responsible for not only leading and directing First Tee, but also overseeing its Taylor Farms Center for Learning and Pay It Forward Scholarship and Mentoring program.

“I feel honored to be given the support of our Board and to take the reins of this impactful organization,” said Nelson. “I am looking forward to fulfilling the founders’ dream of positively impacting youth throughout the county, building youth focused facilities on the Peninsula and also in South County as well as increasing our support from the local community.”

At the age of 18, Nelson became one of the youngest fully qualified members of the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, and he still maintains his membership in the Association as an overseas Member.

He immigrated to America after successfully competing in professional golf tournaments in Europe and Asia. He has coached professional golfers on four major tours and was recognised as a Master Coach for The First Tee in 2009.

Nick has enjoyed sharing local golf news and swing tips as a regular golf columnist for the Monterey County Herald.
