The first South East Golf Week – involving PGA Professionals across the region – will get underway on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27, with flagship events at two landmarks.

There will be free taster events for all at Leeds Castle in Kent and at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

Golf zones will be set up at both venues, offering free 15-minute lessons with a PGA Professional, and special target challenges for children and families.

Among the PGA pros dispensing expert advice will be Gary Bason who does a lot of good work with the Kent County Golf Partnership while host Stuart Purves who will be among the coaches welcoming newcomers to the game at the Leeds Castle Get into golf event.

The events will be followed by more free tasters and special offers in a regional festival of golf across the South East, with Golf Week activities in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire, as well as in Kent and Oxfordshire.

South East Golf Week, from May 27 to June 2, takes place immediately after the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, when interest in the sport will be on the upswing.

It’s part of the national Get into golf campaign which encourages more people to play the game and events are all detailed at www.getintogolf.org

England Golf regional development officer Andy Willems commented: “It’s never been easier to get started in golf and we’re looking forward to introducing hundreds of people to the game during Golf Week.

“Our clubs, ranges and PGA Professionals are passionate about encouraging newcomers and, as well as free taster sessions, we’ve got great offers of low-cost follow-on coaching. We can promise that golf is a great game for everyone who enjoys friendship, fresh air and exercise. So come along and join us – we’ll soon have you hooked!”

Golf Week is being run by the network of County Golf Partnerships in the South East, which bring together the men’s, women’s and professional organisations to grow the game.
