Prince’s to stage season finale

29/04/2013

Famed links venue, Prince’s will host the PGA Europro Tour’s £60,000 Tour Championship in October.

The season’s showdown will take place over 54 holes at the Kent course from Tuesday, October 15 until Thursday, October 17.

Prince’s is one of the UK’s leading links golf courses and hosted Local Final Qualifying for the 2011 Open Championship. It also staged the Open in 1932 when it was won by the legendary Gene Sarazen.

The top 60 players on the Tour’s Order of Merit after the final regular-season event at Moor Allerton Golf Club in Leeds will be invited to play at Tour Championship, where they will compete for a share of the increased prize fund.

Providing the biggest payout of the season, the Tour Championship will be decisive in completing the Order of Merit and determining the final top five, who will be rewarded with a category on the 2014 Challenge Tour.

Highlights of the Tour Championship will be screened on Sky Sports HD in an extended three-hour programme.

Daniel Godding, director of operations for the PGA Europro Tour said: “Prince’s is one of the country’s best Links courses and that is why we have decided to stage our Tour Championship there.

“The Shore and Dunes courses make up a superb championship course and are sure to provide our top 60 golfers with one of the toughest tests of the season.”

The Tour is the UK’s leading professional golf tour and makes up part of the third tier of European Golf. The top five earners on the season’s final Order of Merit earn categories to play on the Challenge Tour, putting them one step away from the European Tour.

The Tour season got underway with the Motocaddy Masters at Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Norfolk starting Tuesday, April 30.
