Golf Genius is investing heavily into all areas of the game and Tim Baker is a by-product of this.

Baker has joined the company from Celtic Manor, where he was the Head Professional, and his new role will be as Sales and Support Manger in the UK as well as being the lead on their CoachNow platform in the UK.

Tim explains what the new role will entail and how it might be able to improve the running of a Member's business.

The interview process

'I saw the advert online and had obviously known about Golf Genius for a number of years. I knew about the tournament software, which I had used for years, and I thought that it was up my street. It was a two-stage interview, the first a general one talking about myself and how I work, and then because it's a lot to do with coaching what I would want out of a coaching system in terms of software.

The job

I will have a variety of roles, which is great, with an account base for the tournament management software where I will be looking after new and existing customers but also then assisting with the coaching software which incorporates CoachNow and Operation 36. That's what my background is and that's where my background is as a PGA pro.

Understanding CoachNow

It allows you to connect with the golfers efficiently and effectively but not only just as individuals, it could also be through groups. You can use calendar integration and there is scheduling available. You can take payments and create your own programmes, everything that can take a lot of time.

The platform itself can save you a huge amount of that time, which then can obviously increase the potential for earning more money. It's there to improve the working balance as a coach. Pros have got a million and one jobs that they've got to do at the club and we're trying to simplify their day-to-day life as much as possible.

The key ingredients

The video analysis is fantastic. That's a prerequisite when it comes to doing a good lesson with somebody, you need to have video analysis and you need to be able to put the lines on. We also now have the lag angle detection as well as the multi cameras so you can have up to four cameras all at once from one iPad.

So now you can capture the swing in multiple angles rather than swinging it once and then moving around to the side which and never quite works as well and effectively.

But the main purpose is that ease of comms, managing your diary and managing the information that you need to send to the golfer. You want it to be clear, concise and all in one place – and not dotted around in different systems here and there.

You can also easily send them reminders and prompts within the software as well, which is great. You can schedule posts so, even if you're in the lesson with somebody, you can send them a note in a week's time but do it in the lesson. You're pre-empting that communication and connecting with that golfer.

The future

It will continue to evolve and progress. Since it was acquired by Golf Genius there has been constant feedback from PGA Pros. We've now got five ambassadors, all industry leaders in coaching, and their level of feedback is only going to only improve the system going forward.'
