Salisbury and South Wilts duo lead in Italy

31/05/2022

Andy Beal played through the pain barrier alongside amateur partner Damian Hayes with the Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club taking a narrow lead into the final round of the 2021 SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge.

PGA Manager Beal and Hayes walked off the course at Argentario Golf Resort with 45 points in the Stableford better-ball competition, which included net birdies on the final four holes of their round.

Beal, who was forced to play the opening round with a back injury, commented: “We both had spells of playing really well.

“I’m struggling with my back but the three-quarter shots seem to work well around here, when I did dip out of form Damian was there with some birdies of his own which was great.”

The team from Wiltshire take a one-shot lead into the final day at PGA National Italy and hot on their tails are Carden Park’s Garry Houston (pictured below) and Andy Latham who finished their round with 44 points.

The pair only dropped a single shot in their round and will be hoping to get a fast start on their playing partners tomorrow.

The teams from Bishops Auckland and Galway Golf Club are by no means out of the race either. They both carded impressive rounds of 41 points on a testing course and will look to make up some early shots in round two.
