Paul Sherman is relishing a new challenge at Langley Park after five successful years at Ashford.

Sherman, who reached the final of the Golfplan PGA Pro-Captain Challenge in 2013, will take over the head professional role.

Formerly the head teaching pro at the Birchwood Park Golf Centre, Sherman sits on the committee of The PGA in Kent, and captained the PGA South Region from 2008 to 2010.

Sherman enjoyed success on both the European and Challenge tours, and is still makes regular appearances on the leader boards in Kent, regional and national PGA tournaments.

“It was a very difficult decision, but with all the people I know there, if there was one club I’d have considered, it’s Langley Park,” said Sherman.

“In many ways, the clubs are very similar. I know a lot of the members at Langley Park from playing in Pro-Ams, and like Ashford they’re a great bunch of people. Of course, I also know the club manager very well, Simon Naylor, who was the manager at Ashford before going to Langley Park.”

So what’s the appeal of moving to Langley Park now? “Besides being a very member-oriented club, it’s regarded as one of the best inland courses in Kent and is a past Open qualifying venue.

“The challenge lies in my helping the club develop a new teaching academy, along with an indoor club fitting and teaching facility, which will be a massive advantage for my coaching team and the club’s membership throughout those winter months when going outside for a lesson just isn’t an attractive prospect.

“These will be part of a wider programme to improve the pro shop itself. There aren’t many clubs with this sort of top class teaching facility, and I’m keen to be part of that.”
