Trentham Park based pro Alec Smith made it two Staffordshire wins out of two in the second and final qualifying school event at Pype Hayes last week.

Following Tom Cheetham's impressive victory in the first round in April, Smith shot a five-under-par 66 for a two shot win over PT Golf's Owen Evans with Irishman Shane Peacock (Oakmere Park) in third on his own with a 69.

Smith's round started fairly modestly before he found his stride during the normally quite tricky spell of long par fours on the back nine, five birdies followed and he could even afford to bogey the 17th without too many alarms.

Evans had a flying start with three back to back birdies but couldn't improve on that during the remainder of his round. Pype Hayes, which also hosted the first qualifier, was again in good condition in the late spring sunshine, re-affirming its new found status as a championship standard venue.

In all 105 pros took part over the two rounds of Q school, all competing for priority slots in the season's six Order of Merit events which get under way next month with The Lotus Financial Solutions Invitational at South Staffordshire on June 4th-5th.
