Stroll for Ambler after shaky start

28/08/2013

Adrian Ambler overcame a first hole bogey by reeling off seven birdies in the PGA North Yorkshire Masters curtain raising pro-am at Sandburn Hall.

His six-under-par 66 will raise the Lowe Laithes professional's hopes of retaining the Order of Merit title in the penultimate of five ranking events at the Vale of York club.

Ambler is 200 points adrift of leader David Shacklady, from Mossock Hall, but with 270 at stake this week and the same number in the final fixture, the James Brearley Lancashire Open which he is defending at Blackpool North Shore next month, he can't rule himself out.

His score was matched fellow Yorkshireman Laurie Turner, who posted a perfect set of figures.
