Filton’s Daryl Kelley is the man on form at present in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA medals as he collected his third win in four weeks – helped by local knowledge at his home club.

He was the only player to break par with a one-under, despite two late bogeys. He beat another form man in Mendip’s Kevin Pitts who matched par for the second week running.

As the weather was glorious and the course in excellent condition it was surprising that more players were not under par but several tangled with the many trees on the course.

Kelley, playing in the last group, opened with a birdie but followed it with a bogey at the second before another shot was dropped at the fourth. Then he eagled the uphill par five fifth to get back into the red and concluded his front nine with a birdie at the ninth.

He dropped another shot at the 13th before another birdie at the par five next hole 14th followed by another at the short par four 16th before his poor finish.

Pitts made four birdies, three at par threes, and four bogeys in another erratic round but a closing bogey denied him his first win of the season. He did however collect the over 40’s sweep money to boost his days earnings.

Enmore Park’s David Dixon was third on 71, one ahead of Robin Goodey (Chipping Sodbury). Goodey birdied the first two holes but a couple of lapses on the par fives were expensive.

G&S PGA chairman Andrew March (Brean) took home the final pay cheque with his card of 73 that showed an expensive three holes just before the turn where he shed five shots to par, blowing his chances of repeating his win of 12 months earlier.

Unusually none of the top three in the Total Triumph Order of Merit featured in the prizes but Giuseppe Licata (Bristol Golf Centre) maintained his position at the top with his sixth place finish and with just two events remaining he holds a sizeable advantage over Ed Goodwin (Cirencester) and Roy Holland (Long Ashton).
