Unstoppable Streeter marches on

2110Lincolnshire Paul Streeter

Paul Streeter smashed the course record at Stratford-on-Avon during the Shakespeare Hospice Pro-Celeb Golf Day.

Streeter scored a 63 to break Mike Gallacher’s previous record of 64 around the Warwickshire course by one shot.

Reaching the turn with six birdies for a remarkable outward half of 29, he recorded two more on the back nine, before reaching the 18th with the course record firmly in sight.

Streeter merely needed to remain bogey free on the par five finishing hole to set a new mark, he went one better, his ninth birdie of the round gave him a superb 63.

Unsurprisingly his victory margin over the rest of the field was a considerable one, four shots over Paul Broadhurst and Thomas Rastall (Sleaford) who both shot 67s as the warm and dry conditions led to a low scoring event.

Another ex-Ryder Cup star David Gilford (Trentham Park) eagled the seventh on his way to a 68 and solo fourth spot, with the visiting Richard O'Hanlon (St Kew, Cornwall) a shot further back.

In the team event young Hatchford Brook star Aaron Lansberry led his players to a one shot win over the team led by Simon Lilly (Wellingborough).
