Job Summary

Royston Golf Club is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee PGA Professional. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring golf professional to embark on their PGA qualification journey while gaining invaluable hands-on experience within a thriving golf club environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager, Head Golf Professional, and other club departments, contributing to the daily operations of the Pro Shop, delivering coaching, and supporting club events.

Key Responsibilities

Pro Shop Operations

  • Assisting with the day-to-day running of the Pro Shop (all stock provided by the Club), including sales, stock management, merchandising, and maintaining a tidy and professional environment
  • Handling green fee bookings, membership enquiries, and general customer service
  • Managing tee time reservations and competition entries
  • Processing payments accurately using the EPOS system

Golf Coaching & Development

  • Assisting the Head Golf Professional with junior golf programmes, group lessons, and individual coaching sessions
  • Developing your own coaching skills under mentorship, eventually delivering introductory lessons as appropriate to your training level
  • Supporting the organisation and delivery of golf clinics and events

Club Support

  • Assisting with the setup and running of club competitions and society days
  • Providing support for club events and functions as required
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of club rules, policies, and procedures
  • Building positive relationships with members, visitors, and fellow staff
  • Assisting with social media content creation and engagement to promote the club and Pro Shop activities

PGA Qualification & Professional Development

  • Actively engaging in and committing to the PGA Professional Golfers' Association training programme
  • Dedicating time to study, practice, and complete all required assignments and examinations
  • Seeking continuous feedback and mentorship from the General Manager and Head Golf Professional
  • Representing Royston Golf Club professionally at all times

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A strong passion for golf and a desire to pursue a career as a PGA Professional
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a commitment to personal and professional development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanour
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Basic IT proficiency (experience with golf booking systems or EPOS is a bonus)
  • Availability to work approximately 40 hours per week, including regular Saturday availability, along with other essential weekend and evening availability as required by the golf club industry
  • Flexibility to work public holidays as required by the golf club industry
  • Must be eligible to enrol in the PGA training programme

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment
  • Experience in a golf club setting
  • Basic knowledge of golf equipment and repairs
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) and basic content creation
  • Have a good understanding of Intelligent Golf
