Club Volunteer FAQs

What is Club Volunteer by PGA?
The Club Volunteer by PGA (CV) empowers golf’s volunteers and enables them to do their jobs more effectively, helping them acquire new knowledge and skills relevant to the golf industry.

Who is it for?
CV is for anyone involved in the game at grass roots level who gives up their time for free. In the same way that the contributions of Governors are critical to the smooth running of schools, golf club volunteers are at the heart of the game.

This membership is designed for anyone that isn’t already a member of The PGA.

Why should I join?
As a Member of CV you have access to a whole suite of benefits which range from business support services to assist you during your work, to discounts on family days out and high street purchases. For more information about the benefits of joining CV, visit pga.info/pga-2020-vision/club-volunteer-by-pga/benefits-of-membership/

How much is membership?
Individual Full Access for 12 months costs £349, while Basic Access for 12 months is priced at £99.

Do I need to be volunteering in golf to join?
Yes. CV is open to any of the 40,000 people volunteering at clubs and facilities throughout the UK and Ireland. There is no experience level required so whether you've recently started volunteering or have done for several years, all volunteers are welcome to join Club Volunteer by PGA.

Does this mean I’m a PGA Member?
A. Those who join the new membership groups will not be ‘Members’ of the Association or entitled to use the brand in the same way that full PGA Members can. We hope that CV Members will develop a greater understanding of the importance and value of the PGA Professional, whilst also enhancing their own skills.

What sort of events can I attend?
Full members of the Club Volunteer Group have access to a comprehensive networking schedule, including a range of regional and national events, from informal golf days to breakfast meetings, building towards our inaugural Members conference in 2022.

What is the purpose of the group?
Until now, there was no formal structure to help golf club volunteers acquire new knowledge and skills particularly relevant to the golf industry. This new initiative will empower golf’s volunteers and enable them to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently.

Why is The PGA doing this?
The PGA is keen to increase its influence specifically in relation to those that employ or engage with our PGA Pros. If The PGA were to better engage with the golf industry we would be able to shape and guide the future direction and take a broader and more significant role in the development of the game and participation. Offering a category of PGA Membership for all those who volunteer to support the running of their golf clubs will position The PGA at the heart of the industry.

What is the difference between full and basic membership?
Basic CV membership doesn’t give access to PGA Learn or the networking events.

Do I have to be working with a PGA Pro to be eligible?
Not necessarily. CV is for anyone involved in the game at grass roots level who gives up their time for free. Potential members could include anyone from the following roles:

  • Committee member
  • Board member
  • Junior organiser
  • Marketing coordinator
